The practice received my trays about 2 weeks later, I was really happy at how quickly they arrived. I had a short 30 minute appointment with Matt where he attached some small white filling on the sides of some teeth to which my Invisalign fit around (these are removed after treatment). There was no discomfort at all during this treatment just a retraction screen holding my lips out the way at a little water in my mouth. Once Matt had attached the bits of white filling he then put my first sets of trays in for me. He gave me my instructions on wearing the aligners along with a couple of tray boxes, one for the current tray and one for the previous tray as I move through my treatment. He also gave me a ‘chewie’, basically a little bit of plastic to chew on 20 minutes a day to help set the aligners and aid tooth movement.
By the evening my teeth were a little achy but nothing too terrible. My teeth felt more painful when the trays were out so I actually liked having them in, it’s a good job really as I will be wearing them for 22 hours a day! For the first couple of days it was a bit strange having something constantly in my mouth and I was definitely aware of them when I was talking. I noticed I had a slight lisp and was also spitting a bit as I spoke. This was all resolved on about day 3, by then I hardly noticed I was wearing them.
It was no bother taking them out to eat and drink then brushing and flossing before putting them back in. I had to reduce the amount I snacked though to ensure I was wearing the tray enough. I made sure I upped the calories in my meals so that I was feeling more full and not tempted to snack. I kept a toothbrush, mini tooth paste and floss in my bag so I could give my teeth a clean if I went out for meals. I changed my morning routine up so that I brushed after breakfast rather than before, I also used the time I was having breakfast to give my aligners a clean in some Retainer Brite ensuring they were fresh for the day ahead.
