Tray 12-14

Before starting my 12th tray I had to have an appointment with Matt again. At this visit he looked to see how things were going, ensuring the teeth were moving into position as they should be.  At this visit I also needed more “interproximal reduction” (little bits polishing off the side of some teeth to allow them space to move). Before Matt did this he put a retractor in my mouth to move my lips out of the way, although this looks a bit strange it’s totally comfortable and nothing to worry about.  After about 5 minutes and a bit of water the interproximal reductions was finished, the cold water was slightly sensitive but not painful. It was a bit of a shock looking in the mirror afterward as my bottom teeth looked really happy.

Sara teeth

I know this is only short term & as the teeth move into line the gaps will close. Over the next few weeks I have noticed a lot more food trapping between my teeth, so I keep a TePe brush in my handbag at all times.

TePe Interdental Brushes

I also found this set of trays caused my mouth to ache the most, I’ve not needed painkillers but I have been aware of discomfort for a few days after changing each tray. The discomfort is all worth it though, as I’m writing this I am wearing tray number 14 and I’m totally amazed at the results so far! My teeth are now practically straight & I can really start to see how the end result will soon look…… bring on the next few aligners!!!

Trays 2-5

After the first 2 weeks Matt saw me again, he asked if I had any issues to which I had none, wearing the trays for the recommended 22 hours a day has been much easier than I anticipated. At this visit Matt shaved a little off the side of one of my teeth which was completely painless, this bit of space gives room for the teeth to move into as they straighten out. Once this was done he placed the second tray in for me. Matt then provided me with the next 2 trays to change myself at home on 2 week intervals. I have made it through trays 2 to 5 without much discomfort. I’m finding the process relatively simple and it hasn’t affected my daily life much and the time is flying by. I have had quite a few patients talk about orthodontics to me and when I tell them that I’m wearing Invisalign they are really shocked as they hadn’t even noticed, which is great! I feel confident talking and smiling knowing that they are hardly visible.

Trays 5-11

Following completion of the 5th tray, it was time for another appointment with Matt, there was no more treatment required yet; just a check to see if the teeth were moving as they should and that I had no issues such as lost composite achievements (the little white filling I mentioned earlier). The visit was slightly delayed as I was on holiday so I had been wearing tray number 5 for 3 weeks rather than 2. I had no issues smiling on my holiday photos and when I look at them I don’t even notice the aligners. I can really tell my teeth have started to move, I have even changed the size of inter-dental brushes I use to clean in between, I am really happy with the results so far and can’t wait for my journey to continue. I have been a bit naughty with my aligners though but have definitely learned my lesson. As we have been experiencing a heat wave I thought the odd glass of sugar free orange wouldn’t effect anything if I just left my tray in. I was wrong! It stained them yellow, it was hardly visible when I had them in but they looked rather nasty when I took them out. I couldn’t wait to change in to my next set, that’s a mistake I will not be making again!

Receiving My Invisalign Trays! | Sara’s Invisalign PART 3

Tray 1

The practice received my trays about 2 weeks later, I was really happy at how quickly they arrived. I had a short 30 minute appointment with Matt where he attached some small white filling on the sides of some teeth to which my Invisalign fit around (these are removed after treatment). There was no discomfort at all during this treatment just a retraction screen holding my lips out the way at a little water in my mouth. Once Matt had attached the bits of white filling he then put my first sets of trays in for me. He gave me my instructions on wearing the aligners along with a couple of tray boxes, one for the current tray and one for the previous tray as I move through my treatment. He also gave me a ‘chewie’, basically a little bit of plastic to chew on 20 minutes a day to help set the aligners and aid tooth movement.

By the evening my teeth were a little achy but nothing too terrible. My teeth felt more painful when the trays were out so I actually liked having them in, it’s a good job really as I will be wearing them for 22 hours a day! For the first couple of days it was a bit strange having something constantly in my mouth and I was definitely aware of them when I was talking. I noticed I had a slight lisp and was also spitting a bit as I spoke. This was all resolved on about day 3, by then I hardly noticed I was wearing them.

Sara Trays

It was no bother taking them out to eat and drink then brushing and flossing before putting them back in. I had to reduce the amount I snacked though to ensure I was wearing the tray enough. I made sure I upped the calories in my meals so that I was feeling more full and not tempted to snack. I kept a toothbrush, mini tooth paste and floss in my bag so I could give my teeth a clean if I went out for meals. I changed my morning routine up so that I brushed after breakfast rather than before, I also used the time I was having breakfast to give my aligners a clean in some Retainer Brite ensuring they were fresh for the day ahead.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Again, this is one of those questions where the answer can vary from person to person as everyone it so different! We usually advise that the most commonly used dermal fillers last from between 6 to 12 months.

There are some available that last even longer than these and these require further specialist training.

At your free consultation we will be able to advise further and keep and eye on your progress through review appointments.

Call us today on 01773 832164 if you would like to book in at our next #FlawlessAtGlendair session and don’t forget we have many more blog posts available to read for more information on dermal fillers and anti winkle injections.

Do Dermal Fillers Hurt?

For a lot of people we see, whether dermal fillers are going to hurt or not can be quite a concern.

Some areas are more sensitive than others – especially around the lips and mouth.

A dental anaesthetic can be given before treatment or numbing cream can be applied. Many patients can comfortably tolerate treatment of the nose-to-mouth and marionette lines without any anaesthetic, but we will always take your opinion into consideration.

We can use a cannula in many areas to administer the dermal filler. These feel more comfortable and can be used to treat larger areas such as the cheeks and tear troughs. They also require fewer injection points!

To discuss dermal fillers with me further, you can either read my previous blog posts here or give our reception team a call and book in. Our telephone number is 01773 832164 and we offer a free consultation at our #FlawlessAtGlendair session.

What are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Hello!

I am back to answer another question for our #FlawlessAtGlendair series. This is perhaps the most popular question we get – what are dermal fillers used for?

You’ve most likely heard of lip fillers, but dermal fillers has many other uses!

They are mainly used to smooth lines and wrinkles when placed under the skin. They can also be used to plump the lips and cheeks and are commonly used to smooth the nose-to-mouth lines.

Advanced treatments with dermal fillers can include facial reshaping and re-contouring of the cheeks, tear troughs and temples. They can also be used to boost the hydration of the skin.

We are also very excited to announce our brand new facial aesthetic treatment… the Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty!

This treatment is perfect for anyone that has:

·         Bump on the bridge of nose

·         Slightly crooked nose

·         Sunken areas or a droopy tip

The best part is that there are NO knives involved and NO downtime!

Our fabulous patient Emma is very pleased… she can’t stop staring at her new nose! Check out the results below!

Next time, I will explaining how long dermal fillers last, so stay tuned for the next blog post from me!

What are the benefits of being a patient at a Denplan Excel practice?

If you have been doing some research online about different dentists, perhaps looking to join our practice, you may have come across the term Denplan Excel.

Denplan Excel logo

In this blog post, we will explaining what it means to be an Denplan Excel accredited practice and what the benefits will be to you as a patient.

Here at Glendair Dental in Alfreton, Derbyshire, we are proud to be able to offer a monthly dental plan to our patients. It allows our patients to spread the cost over the year, whilst also acting as a worldwide dental insurance. This is what is known as Denplan.

Denplan runs the excel programme

A year ago, Denplan’s Excel programme became the first in the world to be awarded by United Kingdom Accreditation Service, which is a government recognised body.

So, what are the main benefits of the Excel certification to you?

At Glendair Dental, you will notice that we are committed to quality, care and continuous improvement. There are many aspects of the Excel programme that ensures this.

First of all, our practice partakes in regular assessments.

Assessment by Denplan Excel

We are reviewed to ensure that we are demonstrating adherence to important legislations and obligations. We are then given an action plan to support our ongoing development.

The Excel certification also means that we have unlimited access to DEPPA. This system is the first of its kind and it allows us to carry out online risk assessments for our adult patients. This evidence based tool is great to have at the practice.

Finally, patient surveys are also gathered to help us measure patient satisfaction. We always strive to keep your care at the heart of what we do.

All of these help us to continue to grow as a practice, whilst also improving our care and services. You can rest assured that you will always have the best experience possible whilst visiting Glendair Dental!

What’s happening at Glendair?

Glendair renovations

As you have probably seen from the numerous photos posted on our Facebook page, there has been a lot going on at Glendair Dental Practice

But what exactly has been happening lately? Have we had an extension? These are the questions we’ve been asked a lot, so we’ll be revealing all right here in this blog post!

(Ps. Get ready for A LOT of before and after photos!)

The story begins with Matthew. As many of you are probably aware, Mat is the principal dentist here at Glendair.

Matthew Lamb

For the past seven years, Mat has been busy gaining advanced qualifications in both dental implant placement and complex dentistry. At the same time, he has continued to deliver the high standards of care that you have come to expect at Glendair.

As you can imagine, this has become a bit of a juggling act for Mat! It has resulted in him working longer hours whilst trying to balance this complex work around his normal working day.

After a while (and after much thought and deliberation), Mat decided to devote all of his time to this rapidly developing area of complex dentistry. With that came the decision to build a brand new surgery, creating an implant referral centre at our practice.

So after a lot of planning and preparation, work finally began bright and early on Monday 12th September 2016.

Instead of extending the practice, the plan was to renovate the current space we had, so the first job was to say goodbye to our staff room and clear EVERYTHING out.

Who needs a removal company when you have the Glendair team!?

After that, the fabulous builders with DB Dental arrived to get started!

We captured the whole journey in photographs so you can see exactly how the hallway and staff room were transformed.

Here we go!

With everything removed, the builders began to rip everything out.

Once this was complete, the wall that separated the staff room from the corridor was knocked down, to create a larger space.

The bricks and rubble were then cleared away.

A new wall was then put up to create the patient consultation room!

Here’s Mat and his dental nurse Sophie taking a look at the progress half way through the renovations…

Exactly one month later, it was time to say to farewell to the builders who had been brilliant throughout the whole process! Pleasant, professional, immaculate… they were a joy to have around!

Thank you to the DB Dental builders!

With just a week to go before the first patients were booked in, the painter and decorators then arrived to add the finishing touches.

As for the consultation room, we are just waiting for the final items to arrive, so stay tuned to see our final implant referral centre… exciting times ahead!
